Gone are those days when the Monument, rechristened decades ago as the Sahid Minar, was the insignia of the city of Calcutta. In the recent past, the Howrah Bridge, now called the Rabindra Setu, has lost some of its glamour to the Vidyasagar Setu. In short, life in the world around us is fast metamorphosing into a new and hightech one.It is now getting adopted more to the global village of information and manufacturing technologies.
One an average, all, from the people in the government to the common man have agreed to admit that, in the post-independence era, the education system of our country has failed to produce the desired social order.Moreover, it has proved itself unable to bring up the required number of competent staff in every field.As an inevitable fall out these, even after 50 year since 1947, half of the population of the country is still denied the chance of literacy, less the 20% of the literate get the exposure to higher education and these lucky few do not even get the scope to apply whatever they have learnt to their respective fields of employment.These are not newly discovered facts.These defects have been oft repeated in seminars and lectures over the years.In its mission to bring about any redical transformation in the basics of education, political determination must accompany the well-intentionde people from all strata of the socity.A clash with the vested interests would be imminent in the case, and, in order to clinch victory in such a clash, it is necessary to help the common people get a transparency in their awareness of science, education and allied ideas and informations.
Today, the rapid developments in scirnce and technology are storming the socio-economic arena all over the globe.While the past decades have witnessed the boom of electronic, the present day world is staggering under the spell of yet an other hurricane, the knowledge of information of technology.This has also empowered man to hold the world in the fingertips.The latest revolution of knowledge, technology and information has been posing a viable threat on the socio economic texture of our country.It is being preached from influential quarters that taking the road to capitalisim is the only way out from this catastrophe.
Whatever be the prescription, it is hardly deniable that the latest development in technology and information must be assimilated into the life of the people, individually and collectively.Our task is to fully acquir and distribute these emerging novelties.And, who are to carry out the task? The pedagogues, teachers, professors and researchers are to it, and, to give adequate value to those involved in knowledbe gathering and knowledge-given.
On the doorstep of the 21st Century, in view of the advent of newer data of knowledge and technology, the initiation of our humble endeavour is COMSOMATH, which we hope, to grow up to help materialise the patttern of education of the future.
This Magazine will come out twice a year.This is a collective venture of the teachers and students of the Netaji Nagar Day Collage Computer Centre. It will bring out articles and papers on Computer Science, Mathematics and Social Sciences which are expected to assist the students in their future walks of professions.
